Using our Die Cutting Starter Kit
If you’ve ever wondered how easy it is to create a die cut project then our Die Cutting Starter Kit is for you! Die cutting is the process of putting a metal die through a machine that works in the same way as a mangle used to squeeze the water out of washing, the dies are not sharp and so can be handled every safely, it is simply the pressure of the rollers applied by the machine that pushed the metal through the paper and cuts it for you. For each of our die designs we create a “Reflections’ sheet, this is a sheet that you can either print or purchase ready printed and gives you a perfectly coloured piece of card. You can also cut them from white card and use pens or paints to colour for a very different effect.
We have put together this all encompassing set which comes with everything you need to start your adventure into the world of die cutting, including a Baby Blue die cutting machine! You will also get our fabulous Seedlings die set, coloured cardstock and a pack of printed paper and vellum designs.
Here is a step by step project to show you a simple composition that can be put together in just a few minutes once the cutting is done and the best part about die cutting is you get these professional results without the need for a pair of scissors!
- Make or select your card base, I am using a 300gsm plain white card stock to create a card blank measuring 6×8”. Cut your die cut elements, it’s easier to have a few to choose from ready to go.
- Add a mat layer ¼” smaller than your card base. I have used the deep plum coloured cardstock from the Damson Crumble Craft Master Cardstock. Stick this using finger lift tape.
- On to this add your patterned paper cut ¼” smaller than your previous layer. Stick using 1mm foam tape to give a point of difference between the layers. I am using paper from the Summer Breeze paper pack.
- Select your sentiment. Trim it down and add a mat layer in the same plum colour used as your mat layer to your card base. Use 1mm foam tape to make the sentiment stand out.
- Begin building your scene. Try a few combinations out and make sure you are happy with the layout before you begin sticking.
- Offer up the die cuts and the sentiment to make sure everything is working together.
- Begin sticking your die cuts. Lift the cuts on 1mm foam pad, shaping the areas as needed.
- Continue adding your die cuts, lifting each cut on foam pads. Layer a couple of the sample die cut to give more depth.
- Add your final die cuts, lifted on foam pads.
- Tuck in your sentiment to finish.
