Learning to paint flowers
I’ve always been fascinated by painting but never believed I could do it so I’ve always shied away from trying. But recently we’ve started to stock some beautiful watercolour paints and the right paper for the job so, having always said to customers ‘what’s the worst that can happen? we throw away a piece of paper’ I decided to have a go.
I looked on YouTube for easy watercolour flowers and found it so easy that I thought I’d share this technique for loose watercolour flowers with you just in case, like me, you think you can’t do it – these are beautiful soft floral designs but without trying to make them realistic to specific blooms. I only started a few weeks ago so believe me, if I can do this the you definitely can! Let me know if you have a go and email your paintings to us on help@highlightcrafts.com to feature on our social media pages or in the Sunday email!
Here’s what I used:
- Add water to your chosen colour paint and allow to sit for a couple of minutes before mixing to a creamy consistency.
- Add 5 dots of paint in a circular area on your card.
- With clean water on your brush pull the paint from one of the dots out from the centre to create a V shape.
- Pull the paint across the top of the V and fill the petal with colour.
- Once you have completed your petals use a clean brush to paint a water line to create the outer line of the petal. Work from the outer edge in until the paint starts to bleed into the water.
- I like to leave a small area in a couple of petals with no water or paint – this will give you a crisp white dot in your petals and add to the soft romantic finish.
Lovely – must have a go x
I’m enjoying the water colours too
