How to use your ScanNCut to cut your MCS images by Sheena Bennett
Hello! For today’s tutorial I wanted to show how I use the scanning function on my ScanNCut to cut My Craft Studio images. For this card design I am using the MCS Watercolour Scene Builder USB, now available on the Highlight Crafts website.
For this project you will need;
MCS Watercolour Scene Building USB
Tattered Lace The Ways Of Lace USB
White Cardstock
Coloured Cardstock (this project uses Craft Master 12×12 Blueberry Muffin)
Glue
For the Topper:
In MCS bring on the images. Decide the size of your topper with the scene image, (I choose 7×5”) then line up your landscape layers so that they fit exactly over the top of the scene image. Once you have the sizing correct, move the top two layers so that you have separate images and print off direct from MCS.
Now go back to MCS, delete the scene image so that only the landscape builder files 037 & 038 remain. then using the effect tab turn the brightness down so the shapes become silhouettes.
Now print off the silhouettes.
To cut out the layers, scan the silhouette print out into your Scan-N-Cut as scan to cut data.
Now scan in your colour copy of the scene building files to your Scan N Cut. (please forgive the state of my cutting mat!).
Line up the cut file you created with the scanned image and cut it out, repeat this process so that you have both landscape builder files cut out.
For the Card Base:
Card base created using TL The Ways of Lace – USB
Using Panel 008 and Frame 006
To create the card base, in canvas workspace import panel 008. Drag the outside frame so it is on its own. Then delete the waste shapes.
Now send the card blank to your scan n cut. Resize the shape so that it is the slightly bigger than your topper (I used 7.75x 5.57). Cut 2 of the card blanks.
Score 1cm across the top of one card blank, apply glue to the top of the score area and adhere both panels together.
To create the mat layer – retrieve the panel 008 on your scan n cut, then resize it so that it is the same size as your card blank, (7.75×5.57”). Cut one layer in the colour of your choice. (I used craft master card stock).
To create the card frame layer, retrieve the frame file 006 on your scan n cut, then resize it so that it is the same size as your card blank, (7.75×5.57”). Cut out the frame in the colour of your choice. (I used craft master card stock).
You are now ready to assemble the card.
Card assembly:
Topper-
Adhere the 3 layers of your topper together, one over the other with either 3D glue gel or foam tabs to create a lift between the layers. (I used Pinflair glue gel).
Card blank-
Adhere the mat layer to the front of your card blank. Then adhere the topper to the card front.
Adhere the frame over the top of the topper so that it creates a frame over it.
Add a sentiment of your choice and embellish with your favourite die cuts. or simply leave it as it is.
