True Friendship Overcomes It All
Hello everyone I wanted to share with you a photograph of myself and a very good friend of mine. Many of you, I hope, will remember the lovely Nancy Watt my goodness that lady has made such an impression on my life over the last 17 years.
I probably have spent more individual moments, with her than I have with Karl. In a few days time I’ve been married 17 years to my soulmate. On this date 17 years ago, Nancy and I walked past each other in Peterborough town centre we had both been at Create & Craft in the morning and she said to me, ‘I thought you were still on shift, what are you doing in Peterborough in the middle of the day? Shouldn’t you still be at Create and Craft?” and I remember saying to her “I have only got half an hour but I need to shop because I’m getting married in two days time and I’ve got nothing to wear!” We both laughed about how crafting overtook everything else in our lives. Luckily for me my gorgeous Husband had organised everything except of course my outfit.
The main purpose of this post was just to share with you this photograph taken last week, many of you know that sadly Nancy now has Alzheimer’s and it breaks my heart to see her affected by this cruel disease. However, despite her lack of words – some things time and illness can’t change and that is laughter and friendship, I think our smiles say it all. Nancy Watt I love you !
Both of my parents have Demetia. My mum passed 3 years ago and dad aged 90 is doing well.
Dementia/ Alzheimer’s doesn’t define us. Those suffering seem less affected than the loved ones around us. I suspect I, too, will have the disease in years to come.
We will still laugh at dirty jokes. We will still pang for that flavour of our favourite sweet. We will still enjoy a lovely song. Life goes on.
If you know someone with the disease, be a friend and visit. It’s not just for you but them and their loved ones. It means the world to them.
Thank you Steph for sharing a photo that totally captures yours and Nancy’s friendship. Bosom pals, kindred spirits. Your friendship and laughter is infectious and heart warming. It flowed out of our TV screens. May you continue to enjoy each other friendship for as long as possible.
Lots of love and hugs to all those ,who like me have been effected in some way.
What a wonderfully joyous photo of you both. It is so good to see Nancy looking so happy. I often think of her. Didn’t she coin the term pokey tool? Happy days!!
How lovely to see Nancy again, please give her my warmest wishes. I remember you both together crafting & presenting and in fits of laughter.
When you took over from Alan&Barry Steph your first day you almost lost your voice trying to keep up with the presentation. Now I have seen you at Farnborough last week with the pyrotechnics, how far you have come, how far will you go.
All the best to you all at Highlightcrafts. Pamella xxx
Am so sorry to hear about Nancy.i loved to watch her demos.
Hi Steph,
As someone who had the pleasure (many) years ago of being on one of your craft tutor courses, I have watched you go from strength to strength in your crafting empire. You had so much drive then and that hasn’t diminished and along the way you have had the good fortune to find special people to enrich your life not least your lovely husband and the extra special bubbly Nancy Watts. Your shows together were always must-sees as there were always some ‘unscripted’ moments and corpsing which ended as bloopers. These memories become more precious now and it was lovely to get that update on Nancy and for everyone, myself included, to wish you both a continuing long lasting true friendship. Stay just as you are, both of you and be well and content, much love, Judy A.
Thank you for sharing such a lovely time with Nancy. The soul knows nothing more joyous than laughter, and Alzheimers cannot remove it from her memory. Much love and many blessings to the two loviest ladies around. Betsy, North Carolina
What a lovely photograph. I remember you and Nancy working together way back in the day. Think there was more laughter than demos. Together you were like the female version of Morcombe and Wise. Two beautiful ladies, inside and out. Nancy looks so happy. Enjoy every minute of your time together.
Sending hugs
Joann

I so loved watching you both on create and craft, and like many others laughed so hard with you. Alzeheimers is such a cruel and difficult disease, your friendship with Nancy is like a marriage in lots of ways and a testament to your relationship, how you have stuck by her when many would have fallen away.x
