Spooky Street Pop Up Card Step By Step by Kath
Hello crafters, as promised here is a tutorial for my pop up card, I loved making this and I would love for you to have a go at making it too it’s a little fiddly but it isn’t difficult to do make so here we go .
You will need …
ITS Spooky Street collection and papers from the download
An 8×8 card base (mine was purple)
Purple card Stock for the pop up mechanism (this needs to be quite a strong card 250gsm or more to make the pop out sturdy )
Black card stock
Craft Master Dot & Dash Square Dies for the apertures (or you can cut by hand using a craft knife and ruler).
Glue
Red liner tape
Card Lights (optional)
Pencil
- Step 1 Decorate an 8×8 card blank inside and out as follows Cut 3 pieces of black card stock down to 7 3/4 x 7 3/4 inches cut your 3 chosen spooky scenes to 7.5 x7.5 inches Matt layer and glue in place front and inside of card.
- The inside of the card.
- Step 2 Cut a piece of purple card down to 10 x 8” place the shortest side of the card to the top of your scoreboard and score straight down the middle at 4 inches, turn the card so the long side is at the top of the scoreboard and score at 3/4” 4.5” 5.1/4” and 9.1/4” burnish all your folds you should have an oblong box shape.
- Step 3 Place your dot and dash square die in the centre of one of your scored squares cut out to form a window do the same on the others side.
- Step 4 Now is the time to decorate the inside of your box with scenes-of your choice …glue along the top of the box with wet glue holding it flat with your hand as it will move it ! Hold till stuck down, turn box over and cut at top and bottom in the middle up to each score line turn back over to the front and cut up middle (you can do this step before you glue the box together (this is how I like to do it to make sure everything is square.)
- Step 5 For the smaller box this needs to measure 6 x 8.1/4” this time score at 3” down the middle then 3/4” 1 and 4/8ths” 4.5”and 5,1/4” on the long side. cut windows with smaller dot and dash dies. Assemble in the same way but this time cut along the back of the box so it can close in the opposite direction to the larger box when the card is shut
- Inside of the boxes.
- Step 6 Measure 2 inches from the back of the inside of the card along the crease and put a pencil mark, take your larger box angle it in a V shape glue the one side at the bottom of the box close the card and when stuck do the same to the other side.
- Step 7 Place the smaller box on top of the larger box and angle again in the opposite direction put a small amount of glue on the bottom of the one side of the box and glue in place making sure it aligns centrally put a small amount of glue on the other side close the card to align again it’s a little fiddly play around till your happy with the position your card should now pop up.
- Step 8 If you want now is the time to add lights by making an hole at the back of the card as close to the pop-up box as possible thread though glue in place .(I used strong tape for this) Decorate your card with characters add spooky houses (just make sure before you glue anything down you keep shutting your card to make sure everything is inside when the card is closed … have fun 😊
